The Clearwater (3/19) & Parkwest (4/20) "Stewart" is indeed a new song. The 2 main sections are based off Pony basslines, so in all honesty, he might be the deserving one for the songwriting credit...
-Jon McLennand
The bassline and drum section was played on 1/31 (Barrymore in Madison) during the N2F encore. That is likely the first time any portion of the song was played.
-Jeff Kempka
And just to add a little insight as to how we put that together: There are basically 3 different sections, 2 from Stasik's bass lines over which I wrote some melodies and one that I wrote from a Stewart that we played in Colorado. We've been going back over Stewarts to listen for sections we want to use in songs and those 3 different sections had similar enough tempos and concepts that composing melodies that somewhat linked all 3 was feasible. I definitely wanted to go for a somewhere-between-tortoise-and-umphrey's feel with the tune as I was arranging it....and of course a little 'simple lines intertwining' Tap influence as well. ;-)
